Toward the end of his notorious life as a radical among religious believers, Aleister Crowley developed a new tarot deck, which was published in 1944 as The Book of Thoth, named after the ancient Egyptian god of wisdom and magic spells. Crowley let all his magical knowledge flow into these cards. Since he was a highly educated, widely-traveled man and an extraordinarily well-versed authority of esoteric traditions, it is no wonder that this tarot deck fascinates us and has remained unsurpassed to this day in its symbolic content and complexity. IN 1909, ARTIST PAMELA COLMAN SMITH, under the direction of Arthur Edward Waite, created an innovative 78-card tarot deck that would come to be recognized as revolutionary. With descriptive pictures on the 56 minor Arcana cards, the Rider-Waite deck digressed from the tradition of tarot decks used for centuries and set the standard for nearly every tarot deck published.

Universal Waite tarot deck - The Universal Waite tarot deck is based on original line drawings for the Rider-Waite-Smith deck by Pamela Colman Smith. It is not known whether the flat, slightly garish colours used in the standard Rider-Waite were Smith's idea or her publisher's -- especially since the Original Rider-Waite Tarot, a facsimile edition of the deck as it first appeared in 1907, shows slightly deeper, richer colours.

Thoth Tarot - The Thoth Tarot is a Tarot deck painted by Lady Frieda Harris according to instructions from Aleister Crowley. Crowley referred to this deck as The Book of Thoth, and also wrote a book of that title intended for use with the deck.
